Accessibility Statement

The Boating Station is in Forester Road roughly 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of town.

We take every care to provide the best access we can for the widest range of visitors within the constraints of our location. We pay particular attention to health and safety, including the provision clear signage in the relevant places.

We have a car park, this can be busy on weekends & it’s not possible to book a space. We suggest it is best to walk to us if you are coming on a weekday afternoon. The Boating Station is in a Residents parking zone, one street parking is only allowed on Sundays.

From the car park there is a steep path to the boat hire office.

There is a Taxi rank at the Abby in town.

There are busses, please check with the bus company for times.

There are two steps on to the landing stage where you shall be put in your boat by a member of staff. The step into the boat varies depending on the height of the river. We have two heights of landing stage & will use the most appropriate one for the hirer.

Hirers must be able to get in & out their boat with minimal aid. We can supply storage for mobility aids upon request. We have no special provision for other access needs.

There are seats on the lawns by the river.

There is one step up to the serving hatch of the office.

The ground is either, grass, tarmac or concrete.

Toilets available, no disabled toilet.

Assistance dogs are welcome and water is available for them on request.

We have put safety measures in place protecting customers and our staff, please be aware service may be slower than normal, this is for safety reasons!

You must be able to get in and out of the boat unaided by our staff, if you are not agile enough for this you cannot go.

We now only take contactless card payments. We only allow a maximum of 2 hours on the river, if we are busy this may be reduced to 1 hour.

We are keeping our bins open, please protect us by doing the recycling properly, crush cans, crush plastic bottles, recycle as much as possible.

Please hand sanitise on your way in! We also have hand sanitiser at the toilet entrance, so please sanitise on your way in and out of the toilet!

You can only go boating if everyone in your boat is from the same household, we do not allow people from different households in the same boat as you cannot socially distance!

Please stand 2 meters apart, follow the signs for guidance.

We ask all customers to wear gloves when coming boating, either their own or ones we supply. We supply these at our cost price, you can ask for any pairs you need at the office.

We also would prefer if everyone wore masks whilst queuing and getting in and out of boats, to provide maximum protection for our staff and customers.

There is a one-way system in place, for your safety.
